Prior to the rise of the fentanyl crisis, the mortality rate of an at-risk Downtown Eastside resident was calculated at 8X the national average, which is comparable to soldiers in the active line of duty. It is probable that the mortality rates have increased significantly since this last estimate.

Studies such as this have informed our practice to tailor solutions and medication therapy programs for the following common illnesses that debilitate citizens in this neighbourhood.
